It is important to note hackers are most likely aware of these popular passwords which makes them even easier and quicker to break as these are the first ones hackers try. Additionally, combining public social media profiles and personal information available on the internet such as pet names, favorite holidays, or birthdays provides enough information for the hacker to make educated password guesses.

To protect against hackers breaking your password, look to generate a new password for each social media platform and internet account, aim for a length exceeding 12 characters that includes lowercase letters, uppercase letters, numbers and special characters, and avoid associating the password with memorable events or personal information.

Don't be an easy target for hackers by using an average length password of 8 or 9 characters using only lowercase letters and numbers on adjacent keys as this is the most predictable password pattern that can be guessed by a hacker in 3 seconds.
